Reagent strips for the detection of ketones in urine, and are used to monitor fat metabolism in the KetoSystem.
Ketones are generated by the metabolism of fat as an energy source.
They will also be released into the blood and urine (“ketogenesis”) when carbohydrates are reduced, as in the KetoSystem. When this diet is followed correctly, you will produce urinary ketones registering in the ‘small to moderate’ range on the reagent strip colour scale. By staying “in the pink”, the patient knows they are burning fat, which is a great motivational factor.
